Sable is fantastic, synthetic is fine
Up until about a year ago, I've exclusively used the crappy synthetic brushes you can get in packs of 4 for $6 at Michaels. They were fine for most things, even if they needed frequent replacement, but I ended up getting a single Monument Pro Sable #1 for fine details like eyes. It worked great, and with proper care it lasted over a year! However, no matter how good care you take of them, brushes eventually degrade, and my old sable is now starting to fray. I decided to upgrade all my brushes instead of just buying a single replacement, and got this set. The sable brushes are all fantastic! The #3 has become my main workhorse, for everything except really fine details and paint that's hard on brushes (metallics and washes), and the #1 is just as good as the old one. I haven't used the 0 yet - I haven't ran into a situation the #1 couldn't handle, and I'm worried about how quick the paint would dry in the 0 - but I'm sure it'll be fine if I ever need it. The synthetics, however, are merely fine. Honestly they don't seem any better than the crappy synthetics I'd get at Michaels. From the jump they didn't come down to a very fine point, and I have a hard time getting the right amount of paint on it. The idea of such a big brush is that it can hold a bunch of paint, but it mostly seems to just hold water. If I don't spend a long time draining it after rinsing it, whatever paint that gets in it ends up way too thin and runs away from where I'm trying to put it. But again, the sables are fantastic. Next time I need nice brushes I'm just going to stick with those, and cheap out on the synthetics - "nicer" synthetics don't seem any better than the least expensive.

Nifty set of brushes
Honestly such a good set of brushes and at a great price point from Kick Ass Mail order. I had issues placing my order and customer service answered my support request so quickly. Would definitely recommend this product and this vendor.
