Hans Dortenmann began the war as an infantryman, but retrained to be in the Luftwaffe. He claimed his first victory in February 1944 and by June, Dortenmann had fifteen victories and was transferred to France to resist the Allied invasion. His unit, JG 54, was among the first to receive the new Fw 190D fighter and Dortenmann became the most successful pilot with this type, scoring 18 victories with it. Dortenmann survived the war with a total of 38 victories, 16 in the East and 22 in the West, scored in just 150 combat sorties. Metal components.
