Volksarmee Motor Rifle Companies mounted in tracked armoured personnel carriers (APCs) are organised much the same as the troops mounted in the new BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles.
However, because BTR-50 APCs do not mount their own anti-tank missile, these units are additionally equipped with AT-3 Sagger missiles in their ground mount form, the portable suitcase launcher (designated 9P111 by the Soviets). The missile takes about five minutes to deploy from its 9P111 fibreglass suitcase, which also serves as the launching platform.
