Stuart V (BR009)
Light Tank M3A3 (Stuart V)
The British Army was the first to use the M3 as the "Stuart" in combat. During operation Crusader in November 1941, 70 Stuarts were used in the offensive against the Axis forces. The high speed and high reliability distinguished the Stuart from British cruiser tanks of the period.
M3A3 (Stuart V) was put into production to integrate hull improvements brought by the development of the M5 Stuart. It incorporated a turret with rear overhang to house the radio and larger hatches and a welded hull with sloped armour on front and sides.
The hull redesign allowed the drivers their own hatches (previously the assistant driver had to exit through the turret). 3427 were produced and British used it extensively during 1944 and 1945.
