Sherman I (BR110)
The Sherman I, or Sherman M4 for the US, although being the first model to be approved was actually the third version of the General Sherman tank to go into production. From July 1942 until January 1944 a total of 6748 gun tanks were built in five factories.
It was powered by the Wright R-975-C1 9 cylinder radial aero engine, the same engine as the Sherman II, or Sherman M4A1.
This model received all the standard upgrades along with the rest of the Sherman family, with the exception of the 76mm gun and it’s accompanying wet ammo stowage. It retained the 75m M3 gun for it’s entire production life (apart from 105mm howitzer armed versions).
This kit represents a Sherman I as it would appear during the Normandy landings with the choice of narrow or wide gun mantlet and appliqué armour plates added over the ammo stowage bins and gunners position in the turret.
The Sherman I was first used by the British in action in any significant numbers during the Normandy invasion.
